Sony and Qualcomm Join Forces to Introduce Advanced Snapdragon Processors to Xperia Smartphones

Sony and Qualcomm have agreed to a multi-year contract to incorporate the latest Snapdragon platforms into Sony’s Xperia range of smartphones, which includes premium, high-end, and mid-tier models.

“We are excited to continue working with our long-time partner Sony to bring the next generation of cutting-edge mobile technologies to consumers,” said O.H. Kwon, vice president of Qualcomm CDMA Technologies.

He further added that this collaboration provides an opportunity for both companies to provide better User Experiences and meet the demands of consumers all over the world.

“We look forward to working with Qualcomm Technologies to deliver premium and compelling experiences in future smartphones powered by Snapdragon processors,” said Tsutomu Hamaguchi, president of Sony Corporation’s mobile communications business.

He added, “We are always listening to our customers to develop cutting-edge technology that meets and exceeds their expectations, and we trust Qualcomm Technologies to help us move the industry forward.”

In particular, Sony Xperia’s latest flagship – the Xperia 1 V – runs on Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, Qualcomm’s latest high-end chipset. However, the phone is not available in India as Sony exited the Indian smartphone market in 2019 and no longer sells its Xperia phones in the country.
